Bandai Namco Studios Inc. (simply referred as Bandai Namco Studios, and named Namco Bandai Studios until 2014) is a Japanese video game developer headquartered in Kōtō, Tokyo and founded in 2012, with additional studios in Singapore and Malaysia. Bandai Namco Studios is a subsidiary of Bandai Namco Entertainment (formerly Bandai Namco Games), which itself is part of the wider "Bandai Namco Holdings" group. Bandai Namco Studios represents the current in-house Bandai Namco development team for creating video games for home, arcade, and mobile platforms.
Bandai Namco Studios’ Pac-Man productions primarily focus on Pac-Man maze games such as the Pac-Man Championship Edition series as well as re-releases of previous games. The studio has also provided direction and general art production for the Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures series and its video games.
History[]
Bandai Namco Studios was formed through the consolidation and restructuring of multiple development studios of Bandai Namco Holdings, such as Namco Bandai Games and Namco Tales Studio. Namco Bandai Games, which originally handled both development and publishing of games, was restructured to have the two operations separated: with the newly-formed Namco Bandai Studios handling future game development, and the reformed Namco Bandai Games (eventually renamed Bandai Namco Entertainment) handling future publishing; the change made to ease and accelerate game development.[1][2]
Bandai Namco Studios produces video games primarily for home consoles and smartphones, and has worked on various successful game franchises such as Pac-Man, Tekken, The Idolmaster, Ace Combat, Tales, and Soulcalibur. In addition to numerous original intellectual properties, Bandai Namco Studios also works as a support development studio for Nintendo, providing development for various Nintendo series such as Pokémon, Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. This Nintendo support teams has been classified by Bandai Namco as Studio 2 & Studio S as of 2023.[3] As of 2026, the subsidiary operates four individual studios: Bandai Namco Forge Digital (formerly B.B. Studio), Bandai Namco Studios Singapore, Bandai Namco Studios Malaysia, and Bandai Namco Research.
Bandai Namco Studios Vancouver, which provided development for the Pac-Man mobile games Pac-Man 256 and Pac-Man Bounce, shut down in 2018.[4] Bandai Namco Studios Singapore is set to be acquired by Nintendo in April of 2026, with the company planned to be renamed to Nintendo Studios Singapore and focused on Nintendo development; Bandai Namco Holdings will retain a 20% share in the subsidiary until its business activities under Nintendo have stabilized.[5][6]
