The Bell first appeared in the eleventh level of Pac-Man worth 3,000 points. In Pac-Mania, it gives you 7,000 points when eaten. In the Championship Edition games, it is eaten for 2,600 points.
In the Super Smash Bros. series, the bell is the second to last Bonus Fruit Pac-Man can throw. It travels at an arc, and briefly paralyzes opponents. This ability is carried over from Mappy, in which the bells share the same paralyzing functionality and sound effect as the one in Super Smash Bros.
Trivia[]
- Presumably due to confusion over the Bell's design, some earlier home ports of Pac-Man replace it with different items. The HAL Laboratory VIC-20 version changes the bell into what appears to be either a sundae or a cup of rice. The MZ-700 version - when run with an external PCG chip - replaces the bell with a moneybag.
- Several Namcot-produced home ports of Pac-Man change the bell graphic to resemble the more detailed bell sprites used in Super Pac-Man and Mappy.
