Pac-Man Wiki

Coffee Breaks (also referred to as Intermissions or Cutscenes, and referred to as Comedy Clips in Pac-Man: Adventures in Time) are small, humorous interactions that appear between levels in the Pac-Man maze games.

Pac-Man[]

Round 2[]

  • Seen after completing: Round 2

Pac-Man is being chased by Blinky, who is gradually gaining speed. After they both run off screen, Blinky runs in the opposite direction in his vulnerable state with Super Pac-Man pursuing him. This coffee break is one of, if not, the most famous break in the series.

Round 5[]

  • Seen after completing: Round 5

Pac-Man is being chased down by Blinky again. This time, there is a white line that Pac-Man runs over, unaffected. Blinky, not seeming to notice said line, also runs over it, but is pushed to a halt as he gets stuck. Eventually, Blinky’s “cloak” is ripped with him looking at the remains, possibly shocked.

Round 9[]

  • Seen after completing: Round 9

Once again, Pac-Man is being pursued by Blinky, who has since been patched up. After chasing Pac-Man off screen, Blinky dashes off to the right side, revealing his true form and showing his “cloak” being dragged along by his legs. After this ends, all of the coffee breaks that come after it show the exact same one, being Round 9.

Ms. Pac-Man[]

Unlike the Coffee Breaks from the original game, these appear with the clap of a clapper board, with the number of the break appearing on its side and the title being on the right. The music was composed by Chris Rode, and the animation was done by Mike Horowitz.[1]

Act 1: They Meet[]

  • Seen after completing: Round 2

Once again, Pac-Man is being chased by a ghost, but this time it is Inky, and Ms. Pac-Man is chased by Pinky. As Pac-Man and Ms. Pac run off screen, they appear going towards each other, with the ghosts catching up steadily. Before they collide, the two Pac-Men move up with the two ghosts crashing into each other. With their safety, Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man look at each other with their mouths opening, and a heart appears above their head. In some Plug & Play versions of this break, Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man kiss after being saved.

Act 2: The Chase[]

  • Seen after completing: Round 5

With no ghosts around, Ms. Pac-Man and Pac-Man decided to chase one another off screen for a while, with Ms. Pac chasing Pac-Man from left to right and vice versa. After the third time, they both pick up immense speed.

Act 3: Junior[]

  • Seen after completing: Round 9

Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man wait as a stork comes by, holding a blue blanket in its mouth. As it flies over, the blanket is dropped in front of the two, revealing Jr. Pac-Man being inside, although without his propeller hat and big eyes. This break leads directly into Ms. Pac-Man’s successor, Jr. Pac-Man.

Super Pac-Man[]

Round 2[]

  • Seen after completing: Round 2

Pac-Man is seen chased by the four ghosts until he moves offscreen. The ghosts then look up, and witness Pac-Man flying above them in his Super Pac-Man form.

Round 6[]

  • Seen after completing: Round 6

Pac-Man is being chased by a massive Blinky, after they move offscreen, Blinky turns vulnerable and runs the opposite direction while being chased by an even larger Pac-Man.

Round 11[]

  • Seen after completing: Round 11

The four ghosts seemingly trap Pac-Man until he vanishes. While the others look around confused, Clyde notices Super Pac-Man falling from above, and turns blue in fear. Super Pac-Man then lands on the four ghosts, flattening them in the process.

Round 16[]

  • Seen after completing: Round 16

The massive Pac-Man from the "Round 6" coffee break is chased offscreen by a group of ghosts. After they move offscreen, four massive vulnerable ghosts are chased away by a group of Pac-Mans with the same quantity as the smaller group of ghosts.

Jr. Pac-Man[]

Much like in Ms. Pac-Man, these Coffee Breaks have titles.

Jr meets Yum-Yum[]

  • Seen after completing: Round 1

Jr. Pac-Man gets out of his house to play, and he sees Blinky alongside his daughter, Yum-Yum. He gets out of the yard to see Yum-Yum; Blinky, not accepting the potential relationship, tries to chase Jr. away. Ms. Pac-Man arrives to protect him by eating a Power Pellet, turning Blinky and Yum-Yum into blue ghosts, and Ms. and Jr. Pac go back in their house.

The Gift[]

  • Seen after completing: Round 3

Junior finds Yum-Yum standing on a bridge, and gives her a balloon as a gift. Yum-Yum politely accepts the balloon, but unbeknownst to them, Blinky is secretly spying on them through a nearby bush.

They Escape![]

  • Seen after completing: Round 5

Blinky gets out of the bush. As Yum-Yum quickly releases the balloon, Blinky tries to catch Jr. - but just as he is about to, Ms. Pac-Man comes again to protect her child by distracting Blinky, who starts chasing Ms. Pac-Man, while Jr. and Yum-Yum escape. They fall in love, surrounded by hearts.
