Crossy Road is a game developed and published by Hipster Whale and yodo1 in 2014. It is an endless, arcade-styled mobile game, with gameplay rules similar to 1981's Frogger. Playable characters from Pac-Man were added to the game following an in-app update.
Overview[]
In 2015, Hipster Whale developed Pac-Man 256; a mobile game with similar endless mechanics as Crossy Road. Bandai Namco reportedly commissioned Hipster Whale to develop an original Pac-Man title based on seeing the success of Crossy Road; with Namco effectively giving the developers full control over the project.[1] Following Pac-Man 256's release, Pac-Man characters were added into Crossy Road; in addition to this, a Crossy Road visual theme was added to Pac-Man 256.
Standalone Crossy Road Pac-Man release[]

A standalone version of Crossy Road was released that solely contains the Pac-Man update's content, aptly titled Crossy Road Pac-Man, at an unknown date (2019 or earlier). This version was released for "Gameloft Orange" (also known as "Wapshop"), a mobile game service primarily designed for Africa and the Middle East.[2][3] A standalone Crossy Road Halloween game was also released on the service.
