— Pacster, Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures

Pacster (パクスター Pakusutā) is the titular protagonist of Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures, and the alternate version of Pac-Man that appears within the universe. His real name is simply "Pac", but he is nicknamed "Pacster" by his friends, and became known as "Pac-Man" after he became a hero. He is close friends with Cylindria and Spiral.

Pac-Man appeared as a playable racer in Mario Kart Arcade GP DX with his Ghostly Adventures design, an arcade game in the Mario Kart series. Alongside Mario and all his friends, he is joined by Namco's Don-chan.

Personality[]

Pacster is friendly, clever, kind and resourceful and always wants to help his friends and the residents of Pac-World. His greatest weakness is his uncontrollable appetite, leading to a lack of willpower in the subject. He truly values those close to him, especially finding his missing parents. However, it is shown that he can get carried away in trying to find his parents, and sometimes gets lost in it. His want to find his parents has also been an emotional weakness, subjecting him to manipulation on different occasions. This is displayed in Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures 2 and the TV series episode, Happy Holidays and a Merry Berry Day, where he is tricked by his enemies with the belief of getting his parents back, displaying subtle naivety and desperation. However, he is persistent and determined. He realizes when he makes mistakes, and does his best to try and fix them.

It is up to speculation that Pacster may show signs of repression, often times displaying sadness when reflecting on his parents or orphanhood, before recovering unusually quickly with enthusiasm.

Trivia[]

  • The appearance of Pacster is based on a modified version of Pac-Man's design from Pac-Man Party. Pacster shares similar traits with Pac-Man's design in this game, albeit with his fingers being shown on his gloves, the addition of teeth, slightly smaller eyes, eyelids and more consistent eyebrows. However, these two Pac-Man incarnations do not take place to the same universe; with the "Party" version still consistently considered to be the original Pac-Man character.
  • In some media, Pacster and Pac-Man were shown to be the same character as each other. However, many nods were made to imply the two were different as time went on. This was possibly done as a form of damage control; the "new" Pac-Man was poorly received by many fans, and these strategies may have been added to separate the divide slightly. Some notable differentiations include:
    • The "new" Pac-Man character lives in a futuristic city, while the other Pac-Man lives in an old-timey village.
    • Ghostly Adventures takes place in Pac-Man's childhood, despite the "old" Pac-Man's backstory being shown in Pac 'n Roll, where it was completely different.
    • In the reboot, all of the yellow Pac-People have been killed off except for Pacster. In the original series, there are no Pac-Men that aren't yellow.
    • A Pac-Man's Arcade Party machine can be seen in the background of the cafeteria in Ghostly Adventures. Ms. Pac-Man, who has no appearances alongside Pacster whatsoever, remains on the side art, as she does on the "home version" machine model. It also appears in Pac-Man Museum, where it is described as "a historic arcade cabinet".[1]
  • In some early interviews, it is implied by Namco staff members that Pacster is actually Jr. Pac-Man, or some other form of relative to the "original" Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man.[2]
  • Early in development of Super Smash Bros 4, series director Masahiro Sakurai wanted to use Pac-Man's "classic" design over the Ghostly Adventures incarnation. Sakurai suspected that Bandai Namco would only allow him to use the Ghostly Adventures design, and considered cutting Pac-Man's character slot entirely if this occurred; however, Namco allowed the licensing of the classic Pac-Man design for the game.
  • In Pacster's dorm room, the player can see models of the ship from Galaxian / Galaga.
  • A Channel Possibly Associated with OLM Digital/41 Entertainment called Amazing' Adventures (amazingadventures) confirmed that Pacster's age is 14 years old, however it is unknown if he had them at the beginning or fulfilled them at some point during the 3 years he was saving Pac-World (Approximately 16/17 years old during New Girl Town Events).
