Galaxy Games StarPak 2 (also known as Galaxy Games Volume 2) is an arcade game released in 1998 by Creative Electronics & Software. It is a multigame conversion kit for Galaxy Games-branded arcade machines, adding additional games. It features unique versions of Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man not found elsewhere, which feature two-player cooperative modes.
Overview[]
The Galaxy Games machine is a "cocktail table"-styled cabinet, with two trackball controllers on opposing ends of the machine. The machine features four internal cartridge slots, allowing the operator to add more games (though ultimately, only two unique cartridges were ever released). Seven games are built-in to the machine by default: 3D Tic Tac Toe, Astro Hockey, Battle Bricks, Big Bang Bowling, Flash! 2000, Galactic Mini Golf, and Global Domination. Inserting a cartridge adds additional menu pages following the original seven titles.
The StarPak 2 cartridge was released shortly after the launch of the Galaxy Games machine itself. StarPak 2 features customized ports of Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man, in addition to five other titles: Have a Cow!, Pharaoh's Tomb, Power Pairs, Seek the Peaks, and Solar Solitaire.
Trivia[]
- The logo used for Pac-Man in the menu is taken from the title screen of Jr. Pac-Man.
- The Galaxy Games StarPak 2 cartridge would be followed by a StarPak 3, which features a variant of Atari's Centipede (among other titles). A Galaxy Games StarPak 4 (featuring a port of Stern's Berzerk) was planned, but ultimately unreleased; a prototype version is available in MAME.
