For the original arcade game, see Jr. Pac-Man (game). For the similarly-named handheld LCD game, see Pac-Junior (game). For other uses of Jr. Pac-Man, see Jr. Pac-Man (disambiguation).

Pac-Jr. is a bonus game included in the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive version of Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures. It is a variation of Ms. Pac-Man where the player character is replaced with Jr. Pac-Man. It is otherwise unrelated to the original Jr. Pac-Man arcade game.

The SNES version of Pac-Man 2 uses the original Ms. Pac-Man game instead of the Pac-Jr. variant. It is assumed that the Genesis version was altered due to a separate version of Ms. Pac-Man already being released standalone on the Genesis by Tengen.

Differences from Ms. Pac-Man[]

  • Ms. Pac-Man is replaced with Pac-Jr. (or Jr. Pac-Man). The Fruits are replaced with an assortment of toys, similar to the original Jr. Pac-Man game.
  • The maze layouts are slightly altered; often extending and shortening certain parts of the maze walls, or connecting/disconnecting maze pieces. However, the colors and general maze shape is the same as in Ms. Pac-Man.
  • An area towards the bottom-right corner of the first maze is uneven with the lefthand side; having an oddly-open area of dots, in a fashion unconventional in other Pac-Man games.
  • The cutscenes are replaced with three new animations. They are referred to as "Scenes" instead of Acts, and feature a row of faux-CD player buttons instead of a clapperboard. "Run For Your Life" has Jr. run from the Ghosts, "Strike Them Out" shows Jr. squish the ghosts with a baseball, and "The Reunion" has him reunite with his parents.

The following aspects are retained from the Ms. Pac-Man port seen in the SNES version of Pac-Man 2, but are otherwise uncommon in other Ms. Pac-Man releases:

  • The game features a high-score screen where the player can enter their initials.
  • The game copies the Character/Nickname screen from Pac-Man rather than recreating the Ms. Pac-Man title screen; this also results in Sue being referred to as Clyde.

Trivia[]

  • Pac-Jr. is unlocked in Pac-Man 2 by finding three hidden "cartridges" across the game. It can also be played by entering the password PCJRDPW.
  • Several songs and notations originating from Pac-Jr. were later used in the Pac-Man fruit machine series by Mazooma.
