Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 is a direct sequel to Pac-Man Championship Edition, and an indirect follow up to Championship Edition DX. It was released in 2016 by Bandai Namco Studios.

Championship Edition 2 builds upon the gameplay introduced in the other Championship Edition games. Taking control of Pac-Man, players go through various mazes collecting pellets while avoiding roaming ghosts. Collecting enough pellets reveals either a bonus item that sends Pac-Man to the next maze, or a Power Pellet that can be used to eat ghosts.

Unlike previous iterations of Pac-Man, in which touching ghosts would instantly kill Pac-Man, ghosts can now be bumped into up to three times in succession before they enter an Angry state, during which touching them will cause Pac-Man to lose a life. Similar to C.E. DX, passing by sleeping ghosts will add them to a trail behind the other ghosts, allowing for large point bonuses when eaten. Here the ghosts must be eaten straight on from their leader, unlike DX where they could also be eaten from behind.

In certain levels, the player can also use jump pads to jump over parts of a maze (a feature originating from Pac-Man Arrangement). Bombs also return in this entry, which blast the ghosts back inside the ghost box and return Pac-Man to the maze's center. Only ten bonus items appear in this version (as opposed to C.E. and C.E. DX's whopping 22), which are the original 1980 Pac-Man fruits plus Bananas and Peaches.

Adventure Mode

New to C.E. 2 is an adventure mode. In this mode, the player must clear several objectives (reach a specific score, collect all the Apples, etc.) in order to pass each stage. Each world ends in a boss battle with a giant ghost.

Easy, Normal, and Hard difficulties exist for each level - the higher the level, the more Stars are earned. Certain amounts of Stars are necessary to unlock the boss battles (and in the case of the final world, every single one).

Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 Plus

A special version of Championship Edition 2 was released for Nintendo Switch on February 22, 2018. It was later included in Namco Museum Arcade Pac as well.

This version adds a cooperative multiplayer mode; with a five-minute time limit, the two Pac-Men traverse the maze, collecting dots and avoiding ghosts. Around the four minute mark, a ghost boss appears - it is fought in a different way than the bosses in adventure mode. This mode can also be played in single-player, with one Pac-Man as a CPU.
