Pac-Man Interactive Projection (吃豆人 建筑投影互动游戏) refers to an event held in Raffles City, Shanghai in 2019, where a playable Pac-Man game was projected onto a giant building. The software was developed by Studio NOWHERE under license from Bandai Namco China.
Overview[]
The Pac-Man interactive projection took place on a bell tower, which once belonged to the St. Mary's Hall school in Shanghai; the tower itself is over a century old. The project used 3D Projection Mapping to project the visuals onto the bell tower, based upon a wireframe model of the building. The lefthand side of the building displayed the actual Pac-Man game screen, while the other areas displayed various extra visuals and animations.
The game itself was a variant of the original Pac-Man arcade game. Each game would last three minutes, though the player(s) had infinite lives until the time limit expired. There was also a two-player simultaneous mode, similar to the one found in World's Largest Pac-Man. Giant, pixel-stylized joysticks were used to control the game.
The event lasted from April 26th, 2019 to May 9th, 2019. There are no known additional showings of the event outside of its original time period.
