Pac-Man Wiki

Pac-Maziac was a canceled Atari 5200 game that was conceptualized around 1984. It is unknown if the game ever reached a playable state.

Overview[]

Pac-Maziac, alongside a generically-named "Touch Pad Game", appears to have been designed around an unreleased Atari 5200 version of the "Atari Touch Tablet"; a controller peripheral that was originally released for Atari's 8-bit computer line. Pac-Maziac appears to be a maze-building game, in which the player would use the Touch Tablet's stylus to select and place predefined maze pieces onto the playfield.

The existence of Pac-Maziac was not known until 2025, in which a set of six Atari 5200 prototype cartridges were discovered in an abandoned storage unit. Three of these cartridges were prototypes of Touch Pad Game, while the other three were slideshow demonstrations of Touch Tablet-based game concepts; the "Slide Show 3" cartridge contains the Pac-Maziac demo. As to if Pac-Maziac was developed past this conceptual slideshow demo is unknown.
