Pac-Store, also known as Pac-Man Ginza Style, was a chain of retail stores originating around 2016. The majority of locations were in Japan, save for one in Hawaii and another in Hong Kong. It was classified as a "pop-up store," with each location intentionally only lating for a few months before closing. There have been no new Japanese locations since 2017, and no worldwide locations since 2019.

Around April of 2022, the store's official website was shut down and now redirects to Bandai Namco's ASOBISTORE website. The Pac-Store social media accounts (Twitter/Instagram) were also updated to state that the Pac-Store line had officially ended.

General information[]

The venue featured three main characters: Pac-Man, Pac-Marie and Pac-Little. Alongside the main cast were a new group of Ghosts named Harry (light green), Terry (teal), Kelly (pink) and Rocky (purple). They appeared on the merchandising and throughout each location.

Animated shorts[]

Six animated shorts were produced by ODDJOB Inc. and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment to promote the Pac-Store exclusively in Japan. The shorts see Pac-Man, Pac-Little and Pac-Marie run the Pac-Store, a store that is composed of a restaurant and a clothing store. The shorts were distributed from March 24, 2017 to May 19, 2017.

First Short[]

Pac-Man is purchasing three baskets of fruit, five tomato rolls and a case of olive oil before resuming his day at the store where Pac-Little shows up to try and take a glass but almost causes it to fall onto the ground but Pac-Man catches it in time. Pac-Marie shows up with a delivery of a product which leads to everyone celebrating and then posting it on social media.

Second Short[]

Pac-Man is cleaning a stain on the floor to which Pac-Little comments on his uptight keep on cleanliness until Pac-Man notices more stains on the door and lights and starts rapidly cleaning everything with Pac-Little looking on. It then shows a social media post of Pac-Man in the clean store.

Third Short[]

Pac-Man shows up to ask why Pac-Marie is so upset as she says that she thinks she's putting on weight, Pac-Little shows up and tries to cheer her up by screaming to lose weight which doesn't work out. He then tries to dance to help motivate a weight loss method for Marie but it also doesn't work, he then tries to have her look up tips online but Marie has had enough so she pushes Little onto his skateboard and hit straight into a wall. It then shows a social media post of Pac-Man fixing the damaged wall.

Fourth Short[]

Pac-Marie asks Pac-Little on how her ribbon looks which he unconvincingly compliments, she then asks Pac-Man how he feels about the ribbon only for him to say a similar response to Little which annoys her as why they don't elaborate as to why they think the bow looks good on her. Pac-Man then says guys don't really care about how they look which angers Marie into attacking Pac-Man with a microphone stand, causing him to fly all over the place. It then shows a social media post of Pac-Man in a hole in the wall over the previous hole he had fixed.

Fifth Short[]

Rocky is working on his hair until Pac-Marie slaps him out of the mirror, angering him and asking her why she did it. Marie replies that she has an audition to attend to before she starts working on her hair and completely ignoring Rocky. Kelly then shows up to do her hair as well and starts to argue with Marie on which of the two will get on the stage first which causes Rocky to make a comment on going on the stage first before realizing the error of his mistake. Pac-Man then says to himself that he wonders if he should tell them that none of them will get on the stage which Pac-Little slaps and discourages him from doing. It then shows a social media post of Kelly, Pac-Marie and Rocky arguing with each other and then scrolling to another post where Kelly and Marie are looking at the mirror again after beating up Rocky.

Sixth Short[]

Terry skates into the store and Pac-Man asks him if he has seen Kelly around as of late to which he hasn't; Pac-Little skates in to greet Terry and notices his mask which causes him to get flustered before Little takes off the mask and reveals Terry's makeup. Pac-Man and Little start laughing at Terry who complains that this is the last time Kelly uses makeup on him. It then cuts to a social media post of an angry and makeup covered Terry with Pac-Man and Little laughing at him and then a post of Terry shrugging with the makeup still on.

Voice cast[]

Trivia[]

  • Pac-Marie and Pac-Little bear resemblances to both Ms. Pac-Man and Jr. Pac-Man. Though unknown why they were created, it may have been in relation to avoid possible issues with General Computer Corporation regarding Ms. Pac-Man. It is unclear if the G.C.C. issues affected Jr. Pac-Man, though it's possible the Pac-Store wanted to play it safe.
    • Most Japanese Pac-Store locations attempted to make it clear they were the same characters by putting both the original Ms. Pac-Man and Jr. Pac-Man arcade machines (imported from the United States) in the store to play.
    • It is possible that the replacement of these characters was, at least partially, a creative decision. One sign that points to this being the case is how the original 4 ghosts are seemingly replaced by 4 new ghosts, despite those characters having no copyright problems.
  • Despite appearing in advertisements and merchandise, Harry never appeared in any of the animated shorts outside of the main title sequence.
  • During April 1st of 2017, Kawaii Monster Café had a "Pac-Store Night" event, which included Pac-Store themed decorations and food.
