"Think Skeletons are scary in real life? Try these ones on for size. They don't have anything to fear, because they don't have a brain!"

— North American manual for Pac-Man World 2

Skeleton[1] is an enemy that appears in the Pac-Man World series. It is a humanoid skeleton that dons pirate-themed apparel and wields up to two cutlass swords.

History[]

Pac-Man World/Pac-Man World Re-Pac[]

Main article: Pac-Man World

In Pac-Man World and Pac-Man World Re-Pac, Skeleton appears as an enemy in all three levels of the Pirate Ship Area. As such, it is the first non-Ghost enemy that is encountered. It attacks by running towards Pac-Man while swinging its sword back and forth. Defeating it rewards the player with 100 points.

A variant of Skeleton called Candle Skeleton appears in the Boss Mansion Area. Unlike its pirate-themed counterpart, it attacks by breathing fire from its candle.

Main article: Pac-Man World Re-Pac

Pac-Man World Re-Pac introduces a metallic variant of Skeleton in Corsair's Cove. Pac-Man is unable to destroy it unless he eats a Metal Dot first. Otherwise, it behaves identically to a normal Skeleton.

Pac-Man World 2[]

Skeleton appears in Pac-Man World 2 as an enemy. It retains the behavior it had in Pac-Man World. Defeating it rewards the player with 100 points.

It appears in the following levels:

Pac-Man World 2 Re-Pac[]

Main article: Pac-Man World 2 Re-Pac

Skeleton reprises its role as an enemy in Pac-Man World 2 Re-Pac. It behaves identically to how it did in the original World 2.

Three new variants of Skeleton appear in World 2 Re-Pac: Shield Skeleton, Bowgun Skeleton, and Needle Skeleton. Shield Skeleton uses a spear to attack and protects itself using a large shield. It appears alongside Skeleton in the three aforementioned levels. The other two variants, Bowgun Skeleton and Needle Skeleton, appear exclusively in the last two levels of the Pac-Knight Era.

Additionally, a collectable Gashapon figure of Skeleton can be obtained from the "Ghost Island" machine in Pac-Village's Arcade.

Other appearances[]

Pac-Man World Rally[]

Main article: Pac-Man World Rally

In Pac-Man World Rally, several Skeletons appear in Pirate Cove, where they can be found hanging from the walls of the various caves located along the track. Since they are only set pieces, they cannot be interacted with.

Characteristics[]

Appearance[]

As its name suggests, Skeleton is an animate skeleton. Although Skeleton's basic form is based on that of the human skeleton, its disproportionately large head and limbs distinguish it from skeletons in real life. Skeleton's design has changed several times over the course of the Pac-Man World series. In its debut game, Pac-Man World, Skeleton doesn't wear any clothes except for a red bandana and a red loincloth. It also holds a cutlass sword in its left hand. Skeleton uses the same design in Pac-Man World 2; the only difference is that it now holds a sword in its right hand as well.

Skeleton received a major redesign in Pac-Man World Re-Pac. Part of said redesign involved changing its general physique. In relation to the rest of its body, its limbs were reduced in length. The shape of its eye sockets was changed, making it appear as though it were scowling. Contained within those eye sockets are small green pupils. Although Skeleton's red bandana is still present, it now also wears a white shirt and a pair of brown shorts. Both of these articles of clothing are visibly tattered; moreover, the former is partially ripped in half, allowing part of Skeleton's ribcage to be seen. Additionally, the cutlass sword Skeleton wields has also been redesigned to have a differently shaped blade and a shell guard attached to its hilt.

A couple of minor changes were made to Skeleton's design in Pac-Man World 2 Re-Pac. The first change is that it no longer wears a red bandana, most likely to dissociate from its usual pirate-theming. The second change is that it once again wields two cutlass swords, just like it did in the original Pac-Man World 2. Aside from the weapons they use, all of the other Skeleton variants introduced in World 2 Re-Pac look identical to the normal Skeleton.
