Sonic the Hedgehog (ソニック・ザ・ヘッジホッグ Sonikku za Hejjihoggu) is a blue hedgehog known for being to run at incredible speeds. He is the main protagonist of Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog series, as well as Sega's longtime mascot. Sonic spends his life traveling around the world and occasionally defending it from the villainous schemes of Dr. Eggman.

Appearances in the Pac-Man series[]

Pac-Man (2013, 2018)[]

As part of a 2018 crossover event between the two franchises, Sonic appeared in the mobile version of Pac-Man for a brief period of time. During that window, a Sonic-themed level was added to the game. The level, called "DASH!", was the original maze reskinned to resemble Green Hill Zone. Characters and items were also reskinned for the level: Sonic took the place of Pac-Man; rings took the place of Pac-Dots; Invincibility Monitors took the place of Power Pellets; and four Moto Bugs took the place of the Ghost Gang.

Pac-Man World 2 Re-Pac (2025)[]

Sonic appears in Pac-Man World 2 Re-Pac via the game's Sonic collaboration DLC. In the DLC, Sonic sends Pac-Man an invite to celebrate his anniversary on South Pac-Island. He doesn't physically appear until Pac-Man defeats the Death Egg Robot where Sonic saves Pac-Man from being crushed by the claw and performs a Double Boost to finish it off once and for all.

The Sonic collaboration DLC also includes twenty figures, three levels based on locations from the series, and a Sonic-themed costume for Pac-Man.

Sonic Dash (2013)[]

Sonic appears as a playable character in Sonic Dash. He is available at the start of the game by default; however, the player can also unlock skins for him as they progress.

As part of a 2018 crossover event between the two franchises, both Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man appeared as unlockable playable characters in Sonic Dash for a brief period of time. When playing as either character, the game's enemies would be replaced with Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde. Additionally, the game's boss fights featured Bash, a Ghost who has not reappeared outside of this particular crossover event, instead of Dr. Eggman.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds (2025)[]

Sonic appears in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds as one of twenty-four playable characters in the game's base roster.

Pac-Man and Team Ghost are due to be added as playable characters via the game's season pass in early 2026.

Wreck-It Ralph (2012)[]

Although he does not interact with them, Sonic appears in the 2012 film Wreck-It Ralph along with Pac-Man and the Ghost Gang.

Sonic, Pac-Man, and the Ghost Gang also appear in the film's 2018 sequel, Ralph Breaks the Internet.

Super Smash Bros. series[]

Sonic appears as a recurring playable character in the Super Smash Bros. series, debuting in 2008's Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Since the release of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U in 2014, Sonic and Pac-Man have appeared together on the series' roster of playable characters.

Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble (2024)[]

Classic Sonic, a younger version of Sonic, appears in Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble as a playable character. He is unlocked by purchasing the Sega Pass DLC.

Pac-Man was added to the game as a playable character through his own DLC in March 2025.
