"Well, then. This is a job for Super Pac-Man!"

— Pac-Man, Pac-Man S01E05a Super Ghosts

Super Pac-Man is a form Pac-Man takes in various games throughout the Pac-Man series. The requirement varies upon game, but oftentimes Pac-Man needs to eat a Super Pellet in order to transform.

The Super Pac-Man form is not to be confused with Super-Pac; a separate character from the Pac-Man TV series, who is not an alter-ego of Pac-Man himself.

History[]

The Super Pac-Man form first appears in the first "Coffee Break" scene from the original Pac-Man arcade game, where after Pac-Man gets chased by Blinky, the latter is chased away by a larger sized Pac-Man.

Super Pac-Man[]

The Super Pac-Man form makes its playable debut in the game Super Pac-Man. To transform, Pac-Man must eat a green Super Pellet, which allows him to pass through ghosts and eat doors without the use of Keys. Super Pac-Man can also speed up upon the press of a button, in which the Japanese version gives him a faster speed.

Pac-Man television series[]

In the Pac-Man television series episode "Super Ghosts", after being chomped by the Ghost Monsters in their new super forms, Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man create a formula that powers them up, giving the two red capes and the ability to fly upon eating it.

After chomping the ghosts in their own super forms, Pac-Man flies a victory lap around town as everyone celebrates. However, the power wears off, and Pac-Man falls into a crate in an alley. Ms. Pac-Man tells him not to worry, because he will always be super to her.

Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures[]

Super Pac-Man plays a major role in Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures, as whenever Pac-Man eats a Power Pellet in the main game, he transforms into a superhero, and flies across the area he is in while chomping any ghosts in sight during the power's duration.

Super Pac-Man is also needed to defeat the final boss of the game, the Gum Monster, where he chomps the ghosts powering the monster up, while the player repeatedly shoots the monster's head and arms with their slingshot.

Super Smash Bros. series[]

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U and their followup Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Super Pac-Man appears as Pac-Man's Final Smash, where he transforms into the classic shape depiction of Super Pac-Man from the original arcade game, allowing him to eat his opponents, reducing them to ghost eyes.

Just like in the original game, Super Pac-Man can be moved in four directions and speed up upon the press of a button in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. However, this was changed in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, where Super Pac-Man repeatedly loops around the screen and speeds up the more he chomps his opponents.

Super Pac-Man also appears in one of Pac-Man's victory poses in these games, referencing the first "Coffee Break" scene from the original Pac-Man arcade game, where he chases a vulnerable Blinky.

Minecraft x Pac-Man[]

In the Minecraft x Pac-Man DLC, Super Pac-Man makes an appearance as one of the skins the player can use, using his design from Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures. He is unlocked upon finding a key to use on the bottom-right door in the maze mini-game.

Trivia[]

  • In the Pac-Man Museum + launch trailer, both the caped and classic shape depictions of Super Pac-Man appear as Pac-Man eats a Power Pellet, and chases the ghosts.
  • In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, a glitch occurs when the victory pose featuring Super Pac-Man is shown after Pac-Man uses his Final Smash, which causes Super Pac-Man to not appear in the animation, and results in Pac-Man appearing out of thin air.
