The Pac-Man in the Moon is the second segment of the fifth episode of the first season of the Pac-Man animated series.
Synopsis[]
Mezmaron's ghosts steal the Pac-Shuttle so they can place an ultrasonic magnet on the moon to suck up all power pellets.[1]
Plot[]
Everyone including Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man are excited to see the first ever rocket launch in Pac-Land; little do they know, the Ghost Monsters snuck under the rocket to hijack it to fly straight to Mezmaron's lair with Blinky reminding Clyde to read the print that says to not stand under the rocket engine. The Ghost Monsters realize their mistake too late but still carry out their hijacking by scaring away the Pac-Astronaut and heading off into the rocket. Pac-Man jumps up into the shuttle to put a stop to the Ghost Monsters with Inky failing to chomp him and then being smacked into the other Ghost Monsters by Pac-Man. The Ghost Monsters aren't done yet and pursue Pac-Man down a girder. Pac-Man then eats some Power Pellets to get powered up and eat them all in one chomp, this causes the Ghost Monsters' disembodied eyes to take control of the shuttle, fly off to Mezmaron's lair and make a crash landing through the roof.
Mezmaron then sends the Ghost Monsters to do an important mission to place the Ultra-sonic Power Pellet Magnet on the surface of the moon, point it at Pac-Land and suck up all the power pellets out of their hidden forest which they promptly head off to do. Pac-Man and Ms. Pac notice that the Pac-Shuttle has taken off into space and both volunteer to stop the Ghost Monsters themselves by flying off in their own rocket ship. The Ghost Monsters get closer to the moon with the Pac-Men pursuing closely and fires a volley of power pellets at the Ghost Monsters' rocket which leads to Blinky having to man the cannons and fires Pac-Man shaped bullets that eat the power pellets and the wings of Pac-Man's rocket leading to the two to crash-land on a planet.
The Ghost Monsters continue to fly towards the moon but Inky doesn't use the landing gear properly so the Ghost Monsters are forced to do a crash-landing on the moon, place the magnet and turn it on which leads to Pac-Man and Ms. Pac's power pellets getting sucked away. The Ghost Monsters quickly realize there is a threat among them and quickly give chase while reciting a parody of "Roses Are Red" and ultimately corner and chomp the couple. They then use the magnet to steal all of the power pellets from Pac-Land and keep them inside of the shuttle they hijacked. Pac-Man and Ms. Pac then eat all of the power pellets and go after the now scared ghosts.
Pinky transforms himself into a plane and flies away only for Pac-Man to somehow eat him through the helmet. Ms. Pac chases Sue through a crater and eats her. Inky pulls out a door to hide himself which doesn't fool Pac-Man and gets chomped as well. Clyde tries to hide in a crater but ends up finding an irate three-eyed alien who chomps him. Pac-Man and Ms. Pac corner Blinky which causes him to take off his ghost suit and float off into the shuttle where he and the Ghost Monsters resume their flight to get away with the pellets. Pac-Man turns on the magnet to steal the pellets and rebound them to the Power Pellet Forest on Pac-Land. On Mezmaron's lair, the Ghost Monsters come back and get berated by their master for their latest failure. Ms. Pac wonders how she and her husband will get back home until the three-eyed alien from before shows up in his ship which they initially have a hard time understanding until the alien clears it up and flies them back home.
Trivia[]
Official social media post showcasing the episode's screening at the Museum of Pop Culture.
- Pac-Man would later explore outer space (though not the moon) in Pac-Man World. The ghosts of the Space world in that game wear astronaut helmets, just like the ghosts do in this episode.
- To celebrate Pac-Man's 45th anniversary at the Museum of Pop Culture, this episode (along with "The Adventure Begins, Part I" from Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures) were both screened at the museum's theater room. However, the screening for this episode in particular appeared to have had a green discoloration to it.
Errors[]
- When Pinky tells the other ghosts that Pac-Man is gaining on them, he speaks with Blinky's voice.
- Just before he is chomped by the alien, Clyde briefly turns blue.
- When the ghosts chomp Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man, they take off their helmets to do so. However, when Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man chomp the ghosts, they are able to do so without taking off their helmets, with the ghosts going through the visors.
- When Inky tries to hide away from Pac-Man to avoid getting chomped, he is still blue instead of purple.
