Pac-Man Wiki

Thebe (テーベ Tebe) is the deuteragonist of Shadow Labyrinth. She is an android made of Nanobite Material whose goal is to destroy the Gamp replica on planet Xevious. While on Xevious, Thebe attempts to summon a soul who can help her accomplish her goal,[1] the process of which ends up reducing her body to the form of a spherical Func-Bot.[2] As a result of losing much of her Material, part of her consciousness splits off from her body and eventually falls under the influence of Gamp. The supercomputer gives this portion of Thebe a new body and brainwashes her into stopping the efforts of the United Galaxy Space Force.

Thebe initially appears as a mysterious figure, and is fought as a boss several times during the game. Across Xevious, the Swordsman comes across various discs containing Thebe's Memories, documenting her life during the execution and aftermath of Operation Sheyenne and Operation Panzer.

Background[]

Thebe and her twin sister, Aegina, were designed to become members of the Root Unit,[3] a group of androids tasked with managing the United Galaxy Space Force's central computer, FEDCOM.[4] Only the latter would become a full-fledged member of the Root Unit, however, while the former remained a cadet. Thus, for much of her life, Thebe yearned for the level of respect and recognition her sister got.[5]

Thebe would go on to become the commander (and sole participant) of Operation Sheyenne, which involved using Sheyenne G.A.I.A., a massive spacecraft fitted with a drill, to tunnel under Xevious' surface and destroy Gamp's subterranean lair.[6] However, despite Thebe's best efforts, Operation Sheyenne ended in failure, resulting in her getting stranded on Xevious.

Shadow Labyrinth[]

90 years later, Thebe would witness Panzer G.A.I.A.—another UGSF superweapon—enter the planet's atmosphere and fall towards its surface. As she was unable to retrieve the weapon on her own, Thebe decided to summon a helper by using a Dimension-Warp Drive.[1] However, the summoning process forced her to sacrifice her own Nanobite Material.[7] Multiple failed attempts at a summon caused Thebe to lose much of her Material, forcing her to coalesce what little of her body remained into the form of a P.A.C.-Type Func-Bot; later, while in this form, she dons the alias of "PUCK".[2] By the time her seventh attempt concluded, she had lost so much Material that part of her consciousness split off from her body. This fragment of Thebe ended up under the control of Gamp, who, after giving her a new body, brainwashed her into monitoring and attempting to stop the Swordsman and PUCK.

I want to be a commander. Not just that—I want to complete important missions and join the Root Unit, be more than just a backup for my sister. That's what I really want." -Thebe's Memories 03, Shadow Labyrinth

Gamp is holed up in his stronghold, Startend Guileness, built deep beneath the surface of the planet and surrounded by a defensive layer of ultradurable metal known as Bacura. Using the Super Blaster at the tip of Sheyenne G.A.I.A, I will penetrate straight through all these defenses, destroying Gamp in the process." -Thebe's Memories 05, Shadow Labyrinth
  7. "The vessel has to be created from Nanobite Material, and I don't have any. I'm also cut off from the Star-Line, meaning I have no way of receiving supplies of any sort. This leaves me with one option. I have to split off Nanobite Material from my own body and use it to create the vessel." -Thebe's Memories 10, Shadow Labyrinth
