Pac-Man Wiki

Tomy Watchman: Monster Hero (トミーウォッチマン・モンスターヒーロー Tomī U~otchiman Monsutāhīrō) is a digital watch game released in 1982 (?) by Tomy, based on Pac-Man. A handheld model was also released with no watchband and a stand on the back. Despite Tomy owning the rights to produce Pac-Man products at the time, there is nothing Pac-Man-branded on the product at all, and the visuals were entirely unique.

A variant of this console, the Pac-Man Game Watch (specifically its second revision), would be released in other countries with genuine Pac-Man branding, including a U.S. release by Nelsonic.

Gameplay[]

Monster Hero is a simple Pac-Man game with two modes: Game A and Game B. Game A is similar to the arcade original, while in Game B the maze walls randomly change position.

Trivia[]

  • While the second revision of the Pac-Man Game Watches is rebranded from Monster Hero, the first version is an adaption of the Pac-Man Tomy LSI Game. It is unknown if Tomy was involved with the development of the first variant.
  • Curiously, both Monster Hero and the Pac-Man LSI Game were advertised in an October 1982 catalog, proving Tomy did possess the license to Pac-Man at the time of Monster Hero's release.[1]
  • This is one of two Pac-Man-related LCD games by Tomy to not use official Pac-Man branding, the other being Programming Digipro Powerman.
