Interpretation and Topics[]
The song is written from Pac-Man's point of view, who often feels overwhelmed by the fact that the simplicity of his reality is always interrupted, or that the monotony sometimes consumes him. But thanks to the help of a special person, the smile he always wears has even more reason to maintain. Although Pac-Man is usually seen as a simple character, the song explores a more emotional and introspective side of the iconic protagonist.
Although it is not directly mentioned, the message implies that this figure is Ms. Pac-Man, adding a subtle but significant emotional component.
Lyrics[]
⍩⃝ Verse 1
- They lurk around the corner
- A different kinda horror
- They always keepin' their eyes on me
- Will I ever be free?
⍩⃝ Pre-Chorus
- The simple life is calming
- But weariness is crawling
- These orbs I chase don't lead to peace
- Just pulse and panic, and then repeat
⍩⃝ Chorus
- Only I know how I survived
- And it's because your presence
- Was keeping me aligned
- And in this stupid Haunting Loop
- I will hold up a big smile
- To help me stay on the move
⍩⃝ Verse 2
- I'd cross the world just for you
- While trying not to get blue
- This life we're sharing it loops on two
- Bite the dread, I'll pull us through
⍩⃝ Pre-Chorus
- The simple life is calming
- But weariness is crawling
- These orbs I chase don't lead to peace
- Just pulse and panic, and then repeat
⍩⃝ Chorus 2
- Only I know how I survived
- And it's because your presence
- Was keeping me aligned
- And in this stupid Haunting Loop
- I will hold up a big smile
- To help me stay on the move
- Just pulse and panic, and then repeat
⍩⃝ Bridge
- In these mazes that echo thought
- I saw myself, then forgot
- A cracked core ticking out of time
- Whispered hate dressed up as mine
- But your light cut through the game
- And gave my yellow heart a name.
⍩⃝ Chorus 3
P-A-C-M-A-N
POWER PELLET IN HIS HAND
P-A-C-M-A-N
CHASING GHOSTS, HE'S GOT A PLAN
P-A-C-M-A-N
SAVE THE PEOPLE OF THE LAND
IF HE CAN'T DO IT, NO ONE CAN
IF HE CAN'T DO IT, NO ONE CAN
Trivia[]
- Production of the song began on June 24th, although the lyrics had been written long before.
- Initially, the original idea was to make the song a bit darker, with JakeNeutron's "Blank Canvas" serving as the initial inspiration.
- The third chorus was written by JamsDx. It was originally intended to be added during the guitar solo, but BryanJo wasn't convinced by this arrangement, feeling the two parts would clash too much, so he added it as a third chorus.
- This would be the third Pac-Man-related song composed by TentaBeat.
- Finespunparty's participation in the song came about because TentaBeat couldn't create a suitable ending. JamsDx contributed to the song in the final weeks before its release in September. Another singer was originally slated to participate, but scheduling conflicts prevented it from happening.
- The promotional video for TikTok and YouTube Short was edited by TentaBeat, and the visuals were drawn by BryanJo in conjunction with ThePermafrostt (Twitter).
