Pac-Man Wiki

Running this wiki has been an...interesting experience for me. For those who don't know, I only gained adminship here around October of 2018; it switched off between various other owners beforehand, all of which abandoned ship before I even knew about Wikia (or as they're known now, FANDOM). I've tried to make this wiki last - working on it through some stressful times, and continuing to maintain it even though I've lost virtually all interest in Pac-Man by now. But at this point, I'm just about ready to give up - and a large group of people are flat-out begging me to.

Let me introduce you to No Context Pac-Man. A Twitter account created around the same time as I started running the Pac-Man Wiki. As the name implies, it posted Pac-Crap without any context. Just a simple joke account. Then, for whatever reason, the account owner quit, and another one was created by who we'll refer to as "R.S.". I actually enjoyed both of these accounts (and had absolutely no issues with the original one). I contributed to them a handful of times; my favorite being PAC-MAN DEMANDS A SACRIFICE. On R.S.'s account, I even helped provide ROMs for some rare Pac-Man games, such as Pac-Man no Desktop Daisakusan and the Catalog IP games.

...You know what? Let's change the subject. Rare Pac-Man games; arguably the main thing I document on the wiki. I was the very first English source to release info on those aforementioned games. They were absolutely NOWHERE on the internet, aside from vague info on Japanese websites. This has been the case for plenty of others too; Pac-Man x Bomberman, Pac-World, Pac-Man for the SNES Bike...the list goes on and on.

Why is that important? Because R.S. basically revolved his entire livelihood around these obscure Pac-Man titles, and he wouldn't of even known about them if it wasn't for me. I don't even think that's giving myself too much credit; I gave him the damn ROMs! Even if he somehow didn't visit the wiki to find them initially, I still provided additional info for him, FAR more than the anyone else could.

Another weird thing about R.S. is that he would do some...odd things under the name No Context Pac-Man. Not necessarily anything bad (yet), but he made "No Context"-branded YouTube channels, livestreams, and most importantly, a Discord. The naming has nothing to do with any of them, mind you. What I'm trying to say is, he has a large following. Like...much larger than something like this should. And that following is comprised of the absolute worst kind of fans.

As most of you probably know, I am very critical towards Pac-Man. I've hated basically every new Pac-Man game since like, 2012, and I'm not afraid to admit it. Pac-Man is a corporate, commercial brand from one of the biggest companies in Japan. Its solely designed to make money off of children (or 48 year old men, depending on how Namco is choosing to advertise that day). Everyone should be allowed to critique it - and if you don't like the way Pac-Man is right now, there's no harm in feeling that way.

The No Context Pac-Man group...does not think this way. They are overly loyal to Pac-Man, and will attempt to make a mockery of anyone who isn't. If you are critical to Pac-Man, they will treat you as if you're a horrible person. You become their new, targeted enemy for daring to insult the fictional sphere from the 80s. This is a process that has happened to multiple people within this fan-group - and I'm their current target.

On the Pac-Man Wiki's pages, I try VERY hard to avoid critiquing the games. Criticism doesn't appear in almost any of the articles here; I usually don't even put Reception sections on the pages, which are used on almost every other wiki. But that doesn't matter to them. Any teeny, tiny little critiques I make are still horrible in their eyes, even though they're nowhere on the articles.

The No Context Pac-Man Discord (which I am now permanently banned from, go figure) wouldn't stop nitpicking the tiniest points of Pac-Man Wiki articles. "Why is there no article on this board game?"; "Why is this character's gender wrong?"; "Why does it say 'nothing more than a faithful recreation' in relation to this Pac-Man port?"; they would NOT shut up. They could, y'know, add or alter that information to the wiki themselves. That's the entire POINT of a wiki. But instead, they just screamed into their little Discord void.

All those little shit-comments made my reach a "breaking point" (if you could even call it that). I put a few joke links into the list of Pac-Man games, such as directing the new Pac-Man Live Studio game to the Merrian Webster definition for "redundant". This, I presume, set the entire No Context cult off. They simultaneously resurrected an old, abandoned wiki called "Wakapedia", and encouraged everybody to contribute there instead of the "bullshit" Pac-Man Wiki. (R.S. also unpinned a Black Lives Matter post in order to advertise it there; tasteful...)

I actually knew of Wakapedia before. That's because it was SOLELY CREATED TO PISS ME OFF. It was from a guy named Namcokid47. We had a bunch of arguments here when I first gained adminship; he was a smart-alec, and acted like everything I did here was wrong. I had to block three spam accounts of his just to get him to leave. So he created the Wakapedia website as an "alternative" to the Pac-Man Wiki (even though he was the only one who had a problem with it), and outright admitted that I was his main incentive in doing so. It was abandoned pretty quickly - to the point where the homescreen said "Wakapedia is no more".

And now, over a year-and-a-half later, Wakapedia is back. Once again, just to piss me off, except now with R.S.'s Pac-defending army in full support of it. I don't get any praise for all the things I've done. All the things I've found and documented for that community. I just get criticized for everything I say and do, even over the tiniest of nitpicks.

I almost wish that I never played Pac-Man. I wish that at the age of three, I never picked out that Ms. Pac-Man plug & play from Toys R Us. My life would have been completely different; and I likely would've never cared for this yellow shit-ball. But I'm still not giving up on the wiki. I'm almost at my limit; but I'm hanging in there, thanks to the few other wiki contributors left. But as for No Context Pac-Man...I'm avoiding that for the rest of time.
